The Soap Box Derby in Pearl River attracted many spectators and families who watched 81 youngsters race down Central Avenue. Chairman Dan Smith of the Rotary Club was thrilled with how well the day went and pictured Pearl River as "true Americana" as he presented the trophies.  "The event requires a lot of planning and preparation not to mention the hard work", said Smith, "fortunately members of Rotary, high school students and volunteers from the community make the event possible. The enthusiasm of the kids who race begins early in the year as they build their cars and extends all the way to the finish line. It brings the community and families together," said Smith.
